MONROE, N.C. — Fresh off another outstanding 2022 season that closed the final weekend of September at Pittsburgh International Race Complex, American Kart Racing Association (AKRA), in conjunction with host clubs Woodbridge Kart Club, Dart Kart Club and the Championship Enduro Series, is proud to announce the 2023 AKRA / Hoosier Kartsport National Road Race Series schedule of events.
For the fourth consecutive year the 2023 AKRA Road Race tour will again feature six big events and new for this year, the six races will be held at six different race tracks.
“We’re very excited about this new AKRA National Road Race schedule and the ability to announce it so soon after closing out this year’s series,” AKRA CEO Bill McCutcheon stated. “The 2023 series provides teams consistency with most of our outstanding tracks remaining on their traditional dates, and it gives racers the opportunity to challenge a new circuit at the season opener in May. Dates are spread out nicely, as they have been in recent years. Many thanks to Dart Kart, WKC and CES officials, and our terrific series sponsor, Hoosier Kartsport.”
The series will open May 5-7 with a new venue in the North Carolina Center for Automotive Research (NCCAR) near Roanoke Rapids, N.C. WKC will host the NCCAR Nationals and the club announced earlier this week that the event will be a three-day show including a full Friday practice day.
NCCAR is a fast, technical 2-mile course that hosted two road race karting events in 2014, and 2023 will mark the first time karts have raced at the circuit since. Click here for more information on the NCCAR Nationals.
AKRA is back at the famed Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for Round 2 June 16-18. As always, the Mid-Ohio Nationals will be hosted by the Dart Kart Club; the event has been the largest annual road race over the last several years and attracted just shy of 300 racers and 800 race entries this past June.
Following Mid-Ohio, the AKRA series will remain in Ohio with Dart Kart at the 2-mile Nelson Ledges Road Course. The Nelson Ledges Nationals will be around late July as in previous years. Dart Kart and track officials are still working to finalize the exact date, which will be announced soon.
Summit Point Motorsports Park’s popular 2.0-mile Main Circuit will serve as Round 4 of the 2023 series August 25-27. WKC will host the Summit Point Nationals and the event will include a full day of Friday practice. The August Summit Point show is a standalone race (not shared with formula cars) with WKC / AKRA the only series in attendance, and it marks the only time karts will race at Summit’s Main Circuit in 2023.
AKRA rejoins the Dart Kart Club September 22-24 with the fifth annual Pittsburgh Nationals at Pittsburgh International Race Complex. The Pitt Nats has become a marquee event in road race karting over the last few years, attracting more than 250 drivers and 730-plus race entries this past September to become the second largest road race of the year behind Mid-Ohio.
The sixth race of the AKRA tour in conjunction with the Midwest-based Championship Enduro Series will be Sept. 8-10 at GingerMan Raceway in South Haven, Michigan. This race will serve as a bonus points race for the AKRA national series. Racers will receive 15 bonus points per class at GingerMan as long as they have entered the class and reported to the grid.
