American Kart Road-Racing Alliance LLC – 60-Day Report

TIFTON, Ga. — American Kart Road-Racing Alliance LLC (AKRA) is pleased to provide our members and the public a report on our company’s progress as we’re about 60 days into the new ownership and operation headed by Van Gilder.

Over the past couple months, AKRA has made many positive steps in the right direction as the 2024 racing season approaches, and has already begun in some regions.

Here’s a recap of what we’ve been working on —

4-Cycle Tech Manual

On February 27, the 2024 AKRA 4-Cycle Tech Manual was completed and uploaded to akraracing.com. For the first time, this document is now available for viewing and download free of charge on the official AKRA website, shown on the Rules tab.

The change to offer a free tech manual was decided as a part of AKRA’s new business plan and vision, and it was made possible by our partners at DynoCams, Hoosier Kartsport, Margay Racing, RLV Tuned Exhaust Products and TS Racing. The manual will continue to expand and it will continue to be offered for free.

The 2024 update also includes newly written rules for the DynoCams Ducar DCD212 engine.

Many thanks to Don Gordner and Keith Shampine for working together to update rules and publish the 2024 Tech Manual.

Track Insurance

On February 12 we announced AKRA track insurance and pit pass programs would continue with convenient and comprehensive coverage offerings for tracks and series. Track owners and promoters are encouraged to contact Van Gilder (info below) for details and pricing on our 2024 insurance program, and we look forward to hearing from you.

Memberships

Since mid February, dozens of AKRA membership cards have been mailed to new and renewing members. We are now at a point where all new and renewing memberships will be processed and mailed within one to two weeks of receipt.

Our membership services department will continue to be refined and improved with additional member benefits, and we have every intention to continue with printed / laminated cards members can carry for race and/or tech seminar registrations and events.

We also have plans to bring membership purchases online at akraracing.com. For now, please print and mail the AKRA form to renew your membership.

National Road Racing Series

In February, the 2024 AKRA / Hoosier Kartsport National Road Racing Series schedule was finalized and announced on our website and Facebook page. The series is five races in 2024 with two hosted by Woodbridge Kart Club (NCCAR and Summit Point) and the traditional three summer Dart Kart Club-hosted events (Mid-Ohio, Nelson Ledges and Pittsburgh).

The 2023 AKRA Road Racing Series awards presentation will take place at Mid-Ohio during the June 14-16 Nationals and we’re finalizing awards and giveaways at the presentation and at drivers meetings at each national event.

In March, we released the 2024 AKRA Road Racing Tech Manual and Class Structure.

This year, the class structure and tech manual are included in the same document. While there are few changes from 2023, there are some class updates and an update to the helmet rule. Racers are encouraged to review.

The AKRA Road Racing Tech Manual is available for free on three websites — akraracing.com, dartkartclub.com and woodbridgekartclub.com.

Mission Statement

We’ve refined the mission statement of AKRA in response to the number of questions and interest we’ve received about the organization since the transfer of operations from the McCutcheon family to Van Gilder.

Our 2024 mission statement is as follows:

“AKRA is a sanctioning body that provides rules, regulations, licensing, pit pass programs and advice or guidance for the karting industry. We do not promote races in c competition to our tracks and clubs. We are your support organization for all things karting.”

Lastly, thanks to all the racers that support AKRA and karting. There is more work to do, and we’re working on tasks daily to improve and support karting.
