AKRA status update following CEO Bill McCutcheon’s passing

MONROE, N.C. — American Kart Racing Association CEO Bill McCutcheon will be laid to rest at 2pm Friday, Sept. 8 at Goldfinch Funeral Home at 606-610 Beaty St., Conway, South Carolina. The McCutcheon family will receive friends from 1 to 2pm at the funeral home.

Bill will be greatly missed, but his family takes comfort that his pain and suffering from health issues he battled over the last couple of years are now over.

Track Insurance Programs

Bill’s wife, Linnie McCutcheon, and his stepdaughter, Marsha Barnes-Gaylord, will handle all track and series insurance program services and pit pass sales.

National Road Race Series

The AKRA / Hoosier Kartsport National Road Race Series will continue to be overseen by series director Van Gilder and the four-person committee that has been in place for the past four years.

The Road Race Series committee consists of two members from host clubs Dart Kart and Woodbridge — Gene Davis and Jerry Echols (Dart Kart), and Bill Kassy and Arthur McKenny (Woodbridge).

Membership Services and Website

Membership services will move forward with Linnie, Marsha and Keith Shampine working to process memberships and grow and improve the membership program.

Shampine’s New Concept Media web management company will continue to manage AKRA’s official website at akraracing.com.

Tech Programs

Sprint and oval-track (dirt and pavement) programs will be led by Van Gilder with assistance from Marsha and Bill’s stepson, Walt Barnes.

Two-cycle and 4-cycle tech programs will be directed by Gilder to ensure all items needing attention and/or action are directed to the proper parties within and/or outside AKRA.
