SUMMIT POINT, W. Va. — Great weather and outstanding competition opened the 2021 AKRA Road Race Series this past weekend at the Woodbridge Kart Club-hosted Nationals at Summit Point Motorsports Park in West Virginia.

While we don’t yet have an official entry count, the early tally shows over 400 race entries between Saturday and Sunday’s competition. Every section of Summit Point’s vast pit area was packed and a number of classes featured double-digit entry counts with some of the best road racers in the country in attendance.

No class was bigger than Briggs Sprint 380, which was the division designated for the 2021 Animal Nationals, organized by Josh Nevels, Jonathan Tedder and others. The class included over 50 racers each day taking the green flag, and it certainly was the largest sprint-enduro field — 2-cycle or 4-cycle — in likely over a decade and perhaps longer. Congratulations to Pennsylvania’s Zach Linsell on the Animal Nationals win over Wisconsin’s Regan Vehring.

Some of the other largest divisions were CIK LO206 375, Yamaha (laydown) Pipe, Stock Honda Lite and IAME Sprint.

Stay tuned for a complete Summit Point race report, official results and photos as soon as each class’s results are finalized.

AKRA road racers now look forward to Round 2 of the 2021 series coming up June 18-20 with the Dart Kart Club-hosted Nationals at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. The early season momentum will surely continue as Dart Kart has reported nearly 600 race pre-entrants as of mid-May. All signs point to the Mid-Ohio Nationals to be one of the largest Road Race events in years with multiple weeks left for drivers to pre-enter.
