MONROE, N.C. — At a meeting Wednesday, January 17, American Kart Racing Association ownership was transferred from the McCutcheon family to Van Gilder of Tifton, Ga.
A new Limited Liability Company has been formed titled American Kart Road-Racing Alliance LLC (AKRA LLC) with Gilder as the single member. Effective immediately, AKRA Inc. will operate as AKRA LLC.
Gilder has served as AKRA’s National Road Racing Series Director since 2016. In recent years he has also been AKRA Vice President. He assumes the business operations of AKRA from Linnie McCutcheon, who has operated the company since her husband Bill McCutcheon’s death on August 7, 2023.
“All efforts will remain to continue AKRA into the future along the path of growth we’ve accomplished with the Road Racing Series and other programs over the past five years,” Gilder stated. “The continued growth of karting is our primary goal, and I’m pleased to help keep AKRA intact. With the help of several capable people, I plan to work hard to build on Bill McCutcheon’s evolving vision of the company since he founded AKRA in 2005.”
Linnie McCutcheon echoed Gilder’s statement after the transfer of ownership was finalized.
“I’m happy to see that AKRA will continue in the hands of Van and others who helped Bill grow the organization into what it’s become. I wish for nothing but the best for Van, the racers, and everyone involved.” McCutcheon said.
AKRA’s 4-cycle rules package, certified tech official program, and committee members will remain in place. Don Gordner will remain as 4-cycle tech director and he will continue to oversee the program.
The steering committee for the AKRA / Hoosier Kartsport National Road Racing Series, including Gene Davis, Bill Kassy, Arthur McKenny and Gilder, will also remain in place.
Keith Shampine will continue as manager of AKRA’s official website at akraracing.com.
Finalization of AKRA’s 2024 track and event insurance program will be completed and announced in the coming days.
